TEARS IN HEAVEN
Original song by Eric Clapton and Will Jennings
By Crystallord
I was listening to this version of the song by Gregorian and I loved it. The reason why the descriptions are so long is because I don't like short descriptions (coz I don't know how to do 'em) and because this version of the song is kinda slow. Gives me an excuse. This is the product of another spur-of-the-moment idea that I ever bothered to write down.

Tokiya suddenly finds himself surrounded by mist. He's no longer sending death glares at Fuuko in their apartment. Then the mist leaves, and he finds himself in the most wonderful place ever known.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would it be the same if I saw you in heaven?

His first thought is of what Fuuko will think when she finds him gone. Then he forces himself not to care; she probably wouldn't, either. Not after they had a fight like that. He walks along the softness of the clouds, seeing majestic angels spreading their bright wings all around him.

I must be strong and carry on,
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven.

Then his second thought is of Mifuyu. Surely she would be here, surely she would know he was here and she'd come. But what would he do? Would he cry in front of her? Would the emotional barrier that Fuuko had been chipping away at finally shatter? All he knew was that he wanted to see her so badly.

Would you hold my hand if I saw you in heaven?
Would you help me stand if I saw you in heaven?

Then he catches sight of Mifuyu; the most beautiful of angels. She looks up and sees him. Her face is blank at first, and then her eyes are brimming with joy, sadness, elation, nervousness. Tokiya suddenly thinks that if Mifuyu does not hold him, he will fall through the clouds. Help me, he pleads to her. She pauses at first, and then opens her arms to him. He runs to her and lets her hold him tight.

I'll find my way through night and day,
'Cause I know I just can't stay here in heaven.

Tokiya finds himself sobbing; Mifuyu is stroking his hair, whispering soothing words and holding him, just like she used to. Her voice sounds different, yet the love is there, greater than ever. But Tokiya knows he can't stay, and that's why he's crying.

Time can bring you down, time can bend your knees.
Time can break your heart, have you begging please, begging please.

I want to stay here, he says, placing his head on Mifuyu's shoulder. So I can finally be with you. Mifuyu's tears start to fall. She cups Tokiya's chin in her hands and stares into his eyes. You will, later, she whispers. But you have someone on earth, someone you have finally found, ready to hold you. Be patient.

Beyond the door there's peace I'm sure,
And I know there'll be no more tears in heaven.

Mifuyu's message is clear in Tokiya's head: I want to be with you so badly, but I will have that chance. Then he looks down towards earth, where some clouds had parted. Surprisingly he could see his apartment, and Fuuko staring out the balcony. She is holding the ensui, and stroking it. Then she closes her eyes and hugs it tightly. Two words come out of her lips; I'm sorry.

Would you know my name if I saw you in heaven?
Would you feel the same if I saw you in heaven?

For so many years you have been forming a barrier of ice around you. Let her crack it, open yourself to her, Mifuyu says. When they say things, they're not really saying it, but the words are understood. That's how it was in heaven. Then when both of you have reached the end of the road, you'll come up here and we'll all play together. She kisses Tokiya's forehead and smiles sadly. Don't push her away. You love her, right?

I must be strong and carry on
'Cause I know I don't belong here in heaven...

Then Tokiya is engulfed in the same kind of mist, and then when it lifts, he is in his own bed in the apartment. He shivers and wraps his blanket around him. Then he walks towards the balcony and calls out Fuuko's name. She turns around, her expression guarded. I'm sorry, he says simply. But the meaning is all there. Fuuko breaks into one of her smiles, the smiles Tokiya loves. It's a smile that's full of apology and forgiveness at the same time. He opens his arms and Fuuko steps inside the sheet. As he wraps his arms around her, he looks at the sky and smiles. Yes, Mifuyu, I do. I really do.

OK, the format's kinda messed up. Oh well, so long as all the words are in there!
