[Tokiya lays eyes on Yanagi for the first time while he’s walking down the school hall. “Nee-san!” he calls out silently in his mind. “No, nee-san’s already dead”, he tells himself, “I must be dreaming.” As if she heard his cry, Yanagi turns around and looks at him. She smiles at him then continues walking to her class. Inside his mind’s eye, Tokiya sees Mifuyu’s death all over again and gasps.]

Ano toki wa naze? to

"But why at that time?"

"But, why?” and I question
if I'm good enough for my companion..

[He sees the vision of Mifuyu falling to the floor with a bullet to her heart, her eyes are blank as she tries to hang on to life desperately. She whispers, ”Live happily Tokiya,” and her eyes close as she departs to another world, leaving Tokiya all alone in the land of the living. Beside her, Tokiya tries to wake her up, to prevent her from dying but it doesn’t work. Tears stream down Tokiya’s face like waterfalls. “It’s all my fault”, he tells himself, ”I caused Mifuyu’s death. It’s all my fault that I couldn’t protect her.” Silently, he swears that he will get stronger and avenge her.]

[When Kagerou meets him and tells him that Recca is out to hurt Yanagi, Tokiya gets furious and vows to kill Recca. The memories of Mifuyu dying flood his brain again and he tells himself that he will never let Yanagi end up like Mifuyu. He befriends her and gets close to her and realises that she is exactly like his sister. Determined to prevent Recca from harming Yanagi more than ever, he sets out to kill Recca and protect Yanagi in the House of Mirrors.]

[After he realises that Recca means Yanagi no harm at all, he agrees to fight in the Ura Butou Satsujin to protect Yanagi. Deep down inside, he gets jealous of the rest, especially Recca, and therefore tries to put them down with every chance that he gets. However, when Yanagi gets cut, Tokiya instantly sucks the blood out for her, unconsciously showing her his feelings for her.]

[In the Ura Butou Satsujin, he wins every fight that he has been in except for the fight with Kai. On the night after his fight with Kai, Mifuyu’s memories haunt him again and he wakes up in a cold sweat. With Mifuyu’s death replaying again and again in his mind, Tokiya vows yet again to protect Yanagi from any harm. He goes back to sleep.]

[This time, he dreams about what Kai told him before he committed suicide. He remembers Kai telling him about Meguri Kyoza’s plan and about living his life happily and not ending up like Kai. He will continue to protect Yanagi with his life, but he will move on. He will live his life the way Mifuyu would want him to. He will make Mifuyu proud of him.]

[With the resolve encoded into his brain, he lives his life happily. When he goes back to school and sees the girl that took notes for him, he thanks her and mentally notes that she is quite pretty. His new life is just beginning.]
